Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Honourable Gwede Mantashe interacts with the NNR during the Learner’s Focus Week 2019 exhibition.

The National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) supports initiatives aimed at encouraging learners to study subjects in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields which aim to bridge the technical skills gap in the South African energy sector.
 
During 1-5 July 2019 , the NNR team participated in the 2019 Learners Focus Week (LFW) hosted by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy at the University of Pretoria campus. The LFW was attended by approximately 250 learners from Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, and Western Cape provinces.

 

NNR technical and scientific experts shared information on the mandate and functions of the regulator as well as highlighting university requirements and career prospects in the nuclear fuel cycle. On Thursday 4 July 2019 the NNR hosted a technical or 30 learners at its Environmental Surveillance Laboratory in Arcadia Pretoria. During the tour, learners were exposed to the state of the art equipment, and technical professional skills that are required and available in the field of Chemistry.
