The National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) grants Nuclear Vessel Licence to USS SAN JUAN (Nuclear Powered Submarine).

The NNR has granted a Nuclear Vessel Licence - NVL 006 - to the South African Navy who made the application on behalf of the US Navy for the vessel USS San Juan to enter Simon’s Town Naval Base during the period of 25 October 2009 to 15 November 2009.

NNR TO CONDUCT REGULATORY EMERGENCY EXERCISE AT THE NECSA PELINDABA SITE

The National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) will conduct a nuclear regulatory emergency exercise at NECSA’S Pelindaba site on 22 October, 2009. This regulatory emergency exercise is undertaken to ensure that NECSA and the local authorities can respond adequately towards a simulated nuclear accident scenario, and also to ensure that adequate provisions for emergency planning and preparedness are in place by the nuclear authorisation holder.

THE NATIONAL NUCLEAR REGULATOR ASSURES PUBLIC OF SAFETY FOLLOWING DECLARATION OF SITE EMERGENCY AT PELINDABA.

On 16 March 2009 at approximately 10:00 am the National Nuclear Regulator received notification, from Necsa, that a site emergency had been declared at the Pelindaba site. The Necsa emergency controller further informed us that the incident did not pose any immediate threat to the public and workers at the facilities.
